Just8 Glasgow Food Blog was delighted to be invited to sample the menu at Thaikhun (pronounced Tycoon) in Silverburn, Glasgow. It is situated in Silverburn’s new £20 million leisure and dining extension. This restaurant serves up tasty authentic Thai street food. It even has the Thai decor to match. The service was attentive and fast.
We had the Sukhumvit 38 Platter to share. This consisted of a traditional taster platter with some of their best selling dishes: salt and pepper squid, fish cakes, chicken spring rolls and honey pork. Definitely worth a mention were the delicious mini-fish cakes.
For mains we had the Massaman Gai (chicken curry) and the Panang Goong (Penang prawn curry). Massaman Gai is a curry flavoured with cinnamon and star anise, cooked with chicken, potatoes, onion and cashew nuts. Panang Goong is king prawns cooked in a creamy red curry sauce with palm sugar and basil. Both really tasty and both choices we would whole-heartedly recommend.
If you are looking for somewhere to eat in Silverburn, don’t hesitate to give Thaikhun a try!

On the Helensburgh seafront is one of the area’s hottest new restaurants. Opened in December 2012 to a fair buzz in the local community, Barca has Spanish chefs and waiters giving it a feel of Spain in Scotland. A table at the window (as we had) gives views sweeping over the Clyde. Otherwise, you can take a seat in the bright, vibrant restaurant which is decorated in colours inspired by the Mediterranean.
We had a selection of tapas and would highly recommend the Pollo al Jerez (Chicken Breast in a Spanish sherry and cream sauce with a hint of rosemary, I think). This subtly delicious dish had a real hit combination of flavours. Definitely one to attempt to re-create at home! We had five tapas dishes and our bill came to £20 for two people making it, in my opinion, reasonably priced.
Just8 gives gives Barca 7/10. If you fancy a trip to the seaside resort of Helensburgh then definitely consider Barca for a taste Spain in the West of Scotland. At the time of writing, it should be noted, Barca is ranked No.1 of all restaurants in Helensburgh on Trip Advisor.

I came up with the idea for a website because I was fed up with looking at recipes books with too many (as far I was concerned) ingredients. The idea with this website is to build up a list recipes, with only 8 ingredients.
Also from time to time, I will treat myself by doing restaurant reviews. I am based in Glasgow, but would take the opportunity to go to other places to try a good restaurant.
